OverviewThis interactive art exhibition visualizes the healing process of loss. Visitors input personal experiences, which materialize as digital beads passing through six refinement stages, symbolizing memory purification and transformation. In the final stage, the refined beads are returned, offering a tangible reflection on loss and healing. The exhibition creates a space for acknowledgment and emotional renewal.
This project was an exploration of how interactive art can serve as a medium for emotional processing and reflection. Designing a system where abstract emotions like loss could take on a tangible form was both a technical and conceptual challenge. I wanted to create an experience that went beyond passive observation.
INTRODUCTION
Concept
The exhibition explores loss as a process rather than a fixed state, portraying how memories evolve through different stages of acceptance and transformation.
Inspired by the idea that "all memories remain unchanged, yet their meanings can shift," the exhibition uses beads as a metaphor for memories, demonstrating how they undergo refinement without losing their core essence.
INTERACTION
Interactive Experience
Code
Web
At the entrance, visitors interact with digital monitors to input their personal experiences of loss. These textual expressions transform into beads, symbolizing the raw emotional weight of each memory. The beads then physically drop into the exhibition structure, setting off a chain reaction.
PROCESS
StagesThe beads move through six different filtration stages, visually representing the process of emotional healing and understanding. At each stage, certain beads are filtered out, leaving only one to three beads in the end. This symbolizes the core emotions or insights that remain after processing one's loss.
PROCESS
Challenge
Balancing the symbolic and interactive elements was a significant design challenge. The experience needed to feel organic rather than overly mechanical, ensuring that each stage felt meaningful rather than just a visual effect. Through continuous iterations, I refined the mechanics to enhance both the conceptual depth and the intuitive engagement of the audience.

REFLECTIONS
Final TakeawaysBeyond creating the exhibition for others, this project became a personal process of healing for me as well. Like many, I experienced loss during the pandemic, and in designing this space, I found myself confronting and reshaping my own relationship with grief. Through this project, I was able to externalize emotions that had once felt intangible, turning personal loss into something shared, acknowledged, and ultimately, transformed.
What I Learned...
Building an Interactive Web Experience:
This project let me explore interactive web elements in an exhibition setting. Designing a web interface where visitors input personal stories and saw them take tangible form enhanced my understanding of digital interaction as an emotional bridge between users and physical spaces.
From Concept to Execution: Seeing a Project Through
Beyond ideation, I was involved in every stage of the exhibition—from initial planning and conceptualization to construction and final execution. This hands-on experience reinforced my ability to navigate both creative and logistical challenges, ensuring that the project’s vision was fully realized.
